An Environmentally Aware Society
As Theodore Roosevelt's presidency began in 1901, along with it came a new idea of the consevation of natural resoucres. Also known as the Progressive Era, the Environmental Movement brought action by the U.S. government to preserve natural resources and to create national parks across the nation. As the United States Forest Service, five national parks, 51 bird reserves, and 150 National Forests were created and signed into law and created by Roosevelt, Environmentalism began to take shape across the country, and make its way into important leaders' minds such as John Muir and Gifford Pinchot. Today, over 100 national parks are in existence in the Unites States, and the United States Government continues to be environmentally aware through programs such as The United States Environmental Protection Agency and The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969. The Environmental Movement was overall a tremendous step towards natural preservation in the United States and has continued to be monitored through the 21st century. Conservation can be seen in government today through the competition of the Green Party, whose primary focus rests on environmental matters.
